| Case Study- The Effect of Bio-Sulphur By taking soil analysis before and after applications of Bio-Sulphur the change in the chemical and physical properties of the soil was clearly demonstrated with soil, leaf tissue and yield analysis. | Crop: | | Potatoes | | Soil: | | Sandy Clay Loam - high in Calcium | | Application Rate: | - Treated plots received two applications of Bio-Sulphur at rate of 40 litres/ha. No NPK was applied.
- Control Plot received no Bio-Sulphur or NPK applications.
| Timing: 1 application of Bio-Sulphur in the autumn and 1 after planting.Soil Analysis Applications of Bio-Sulphur significantly changed the soil chemistry and the nutrient availability. Levels of Potassium, Magnesium and Sulphate all increased. For example the availability of Phosphate and Sulphate nearly doubled. Micro - nutrient levels also increased - Iron by 25%, Zinc by 56%, Manganese by 16% and Boron by 48%. - Calcium levels dropped from 80% to 75.5% indicating that something in the region of 465 kg/ha of Calcium was moved out of the rhizosphere.
- Magnesium levels increased by 160 kg/ha
- Phosphate levels almost doubled to 80 kg/ha
- Sulphate levels almost doubled to 100 kg/ha.
- Iron levels increased by about 30kg/ha.
