Agronomist Andrew Turnbull joins Biotechnica’s Management Team

We are delighted to announce that Andrew Turnbull has joined the Biotechnica team as Business Development Manager. Biotechnica is the largest processor of seaweed in the UK with a long history of developing innovative biostimulants and microbial products for agriculture, horticulture, turf & amenities. Andrew’s experience is the perfect fit to enhance our capability across these sectors. His career to date has included positions such as Greenkeeper, Head Groundsman, Golf Course Manager, Construction Agronomist and even College Tutor.

Andrew shares “I am very excited to join the Biotechnica team. I first began to develop my ideas for alternatives to chemical pesticides during the early stages of my golf greenkeeping career when we were still using metal-based fungicides with little protective clothing, and I was going home and playing with my boys! I started to think that we needed to do this differently. As soon as I became a Golf Course Manager, I had the freedom to experiment with molasses, seaweed, humic powders and compost teas, long before the concept of biostimulants was thought of. This, plus my degree project of composting, was the backbone of the business a friend and I initiated.”

In 2007, Andrew helped start a business that brought the concept of using biostimulants to manage turfgrass surfaces, to the UK turfgrass market, during which he used Biotechnica products. This resulted in firsthand experience of the Biotechnica range.

His extensive vocational experience is enhanced with a BSc (Hons), with his thesis on how microbes degrade organic matter to produce compost suitable. In 2019, Andrew studied at the world-renowned University of Nottingham plant science centre and was awarded a Master of Research in Crop & Plant Science.
